Early Disease Detection During your comprehensive eye examination, we screen for common eye diseases and conditions including: Eye Diseases: Glaucoma (increased eye pressure and optic nerve damage) Cataracts (clouding of the lens) Age-related macular degeneration (central vision loss) Diabetic retinopathy (diabetes-related eye damage) Dry eye syndrome Corneal conditions and infections Retinal problems Systemic Health Indicators: Your eyes can reveal early signs of broader health issues. During your exam, we may detect indicators of: Diabetes High blood pressure High cholesterol Thyroid disorders Autoimmune conditions If we detect signs of these conditions, we'll provide appropriate referrals to ensure you receive comprehensive care from the right specialists.
Do you accept OHIP? What does OHIP cover for eye exams? Yes! We accept OHIP and are happy to direct bill for eligible patients. OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) covers comprehensive eye examinations for specific groups of Ontario residents. Who is covered under OHIP: Children & Teens (19 and under): 1 comprehensive eye exam per year, fully covered Additional minor assessments for specific eye issues (infections, injuries, etc.) No out-of-pocket cost with valid Ontario health card Seniors (65 and older): WITH qualifying eye conditions: 1 exam every 12 months + 2 follow-up assessments WITHOUT qualifying conditions: 1 exam every 18 months + 2 follow-up assessments Qualifying conditions include diabetes, glaucoma, cataracts (affecting vision), and others Adults (20-64 years): OHIP covers eye exams for adults with diagnosed medical conditions that affect eye health, including: Diabetes (with confirmation from physician or medication list) Glaucoma (requiring treatment) Cataracts (visual acuity of 20/40 or worse) Retinal diseases (active or progressive conditions) Corneal diseases (active or progressive) Optic nerve pathway diseases Uveitis (when active) Certain medications requiring eye monitoring (Plaquenil, Hydroxychloroquine, Tamoxifen, Ethambutol) Eligible adults receive 1 comprehensive exam per year + 2 follow-up minor assessments. What you need to bring: Valid Ontario health card List of current medications (if applicable) Letter from physician confirming diagnosis (if applicable) What if I'm not covered by OHIP? Don't worry! What is direct billing and how does it work? Direct billing means we submit your insurance claim directly to your insurance provider on your behalf — no paperwork or upfront payment required for covered services. How it works: Bring your insurance card to your appointment We verify your coverage before your exam We perform your eye exam and any covered services We submit the claim directly to your insurance You only pay for any amount not covered by your plan We direct bill to most major insurance providers including: Sun Life Financial Manulife Canada Life Great-West Life Blue Cross Green Shield Canada Chambers of Commerce Group Insurance And many more workplace benefit plans What if my insurance doesn't cover the full cost? We'll let you know before your exam exactly what's covered and what (if anything) you'll need to pay. How long does an eye exam take? A comprehensive eye exam typically takes 30 minutes, depending on the tests required. Additional time may be needed for contact lens fittings or specialized testing. If doctor found you need to be refer to an specialist we will take of it.
Can children have eye exams? Absolutely! We offer comprehensive pediatric eye exams for children of all ages. Early detection of vision problems is crucial for your child's development and learning.
What is digital eye strain? Digital eye strain occurs from prolonged use of computers, phones, and tablets. Symptoms include headaches, dry eyes, blurred vision, and neck pain. We offer solutions including specialized lenses and eye care tips.
Do you sell contact lenses? Yes, we offer a full range of contact lenses including daily, weekly, and monthly disposables, as well as specialty lenses for astigmatism, multifocal needs, RGP, *Esclerales and more.
How often should I have an eye exam? Adults should have a comprehensive eye exam every 1-2 years, depending on age, risk factors, and whether you wear corrective lenses. Children should have their first exam at 6 months, then at age 3, before starting school, and every year.
What should I bring to my appointment? Please bring your health card, any current eyeglasses or contact lenses, a list of medications you're taking, your vision insurance card if applicable, and any previous eye exam records.
